Kaizer Chiefs striker Khama Billiat has given new coach Gavin Hunt a vote of confidence, saying he is a “great coach” and “knows how to win.”
The Zimbabwean international is looking to impress Hunt, a former Bidvest Wits coach, who has won the Premiership four times with two different teams and has many more national cup competitions under his belt.
“I always wanted to work with him [coach Gavin Hunt]‚” Billiat said. “He is a great coach who knows how to win [games]. “
The Chiefs’ first-team roster has returned to training ahead of the start of the DStv Premiership on October 24 (MTN8 begins October 17) after having had a two-week off-season break.
The skilled 30-year-old Zimbabwean striker admitted that the preseason is not his “favorite pastime” as it involves running a lot. However, Billiat admitted, it must be done to prepare the players to be “ready for the new season.”
Billiat said he is excited about Hunt’s approach.
“We have seen, while coaching other clubs, that no player is guaranteed to play. He is a coach who brings out the best in you, ”he said.
“It makes the players happy and that’s what we needed. You can feel it in training, there is a different energy. “
Billiat is confident that Hunt will help him get back “to my best level.”
The Zimbabwean has already been separated by the coach in training to receive specific personal instructions. “It made clear what he expected of me,” Billiat said.
