ANC Secretary General and former Free State Prime Minister Ace Magashule was exonerated on Wednesday by public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane following a complaint from a member of the provincial legislature Roy Jankielsohn.
Jankielsohn alleged that Magashule twice misled the provincial legislature in his written responses to questions from members of the legislature.
The briefing, led by Mkhwebane and his deputy, advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, saw the publication of 14 reports, including one on Magashule and one on UDM leader Bantu Holomisa and the PIC.
Mkhwebane said that the first complaint against Magashule related to the Prime Minister’s office’s involvement in the funeral arrangements of the late MEC Fundiswa Ngubentombi, while the second concerned a forensic report in relation to Letlaka Communications’ appointment by the prime minister’s office. .
“My investigation revealed that the former prime minister did not blatantly mislead the legislature in his response regarding his office’s involvement in funeral arrangements, as well as his office’s commitment to ensuring that the provincial government reimburses the municipality. The accusation is baseless, ”said Mkhwebane.
On the second complaint, he found that Magashule did not mislead the provincial legislature by denying any knowledge of a JGL Forensic Services report, as well as the recommendation of the finance minister.
