SEOUL – As if to whet our appetite for the real N version of the i20, Hyundai has revealed the ‘N Line’ package for its new i20, which essentially gives the regular hatchback versions a sportier appearance inspired by the company’s performance. division.

Pretend until you do.

However, the new specification grade at least gives us an idea of what to expect from the i20 N, at least in terms of style. Here we see unique 17-inch alloys with a two-tone finish, as well as a model-specific front bumper that houses a cascading black grille with a checkered flag-inspired pattern. Also set apart is the gray trim on the skirts and sills and a bolder-looking rear bumper, while the cabin is decorated with N-brand sports seats, a custom steering wheel, red stitching and metal pedals.

To make sure there’s at least something to match the show, Hyundai doesn’t offer the N Line trim with the base engines, so the only option for buyers is the 88kW version of Hyundai’s 1-liter turbo-triple. The model will also be available with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

Of course, Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed which engine will power the next i20 N performance model, but most rumors point to a version of Hyundai’s 1.6-liter turbo engine, with around 150kW.

“With the all-new i20 N Line, we are bringing our choice of stylish and sporty equipment to the i20 for the first time,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Hyundai Europe.

“With this new model, we are making sure we can meet the needs of an even broader customer base by offering a unique performance style inspired by our N brand to emphasize our brand’s motorsport roots.”

At this stage it is unclear whether the N Line specification grade will be part of the next generation i20 mix coming to South Africa in the second half of 2020. As South Africa’s i20s come from India, the engines and grades of Specification could differ from the European model we see here.
