- A man was shot several times in the head.
- His family is puzzled over a possible motive.
- He previously survived a heart attack.
A Howick West father of six, Videsh “Debs” Debideen, was killed in a hit-and-run-style shooting when he walked through his front door Monday afternoon.
The 54-year-old man was returning from work and was waiting for the door to open when two men approached his car and opened fire on him around 4 p.m.
Yesterday his family told him The witness who hooted once and then heard gunshots immediately after. When they rushed to see what had happened, the shooters were already fleeing the scene.
“When we got to him, I only saw the wounds on his neck and head, but I still thought he was alive until the paramedics told me he was gone,” said his wife, Morgany.
She said there were no signs that the men who attacked him could have been trying to hijack the car because all the shots were on the left side of his body. She also did not know if it was a robbery that went wrong but they did not remove anything from the car, not even her bag that was on the passenger side.
The attackers’ first shots are believed to have missed and came out of the passenger window, but then they pointed their pistols inside the car, as some of the eight injuries appeared to have been from point-blank shots. When The witness visited Debideen’s house, they had just found some of the bullets that were buried in the ground at the door.
“We don’t know why someone would do something so foolish, so cold-blooded, so cruel, but obviously they wanted him dead,” Morgany said.
‘We believe that [the shooters] They waited for him because they knew the exact time of his return home, so they must have parked somewhere and so they fled on foot. ‘
While he did not know if it was related to the murder, he said that for the last three weeks his dogs had been barking like crazy in the middle of the night and that he had sometimes even woken up to turn on the lights and shine a torch but did not see nothing.
Morgany said she no longer felt safe in the home her family had lived in for 20 years because she didn’t know if the men who killed her husband would come back for her and her children. “I don’t want to live here anymore because I don’t know how I’m going to get in and out of that door every day knowing that’s where she took her last breath.”
Morgany said her husband survived a massive heart attack last year and, although he still had health problems, they looked forward to many years with him.
“His mother is taking it very hard and it is difficult to comfort her because no father should have to bury his son.”
She said Debideen was the only breadwinner and four of her children, ages 12 to 20, were still dependent on him.
“I stay home because three of our children are not well, so I need to be around them. In fact, I don’t know what we’re going to do because we don’t even have medical help now that he’s gone. “
Debideen’s daughter Karina said the family was still trying to make sense of what happened as they did not know what was the reason for her death. “We believe that [the shooters] they waited for him because they knew the exact time of his return home, so they must have parked somewhere and that is why they fled on foot ”.
She said her father had no enemies that the family knew about and that he had never mentioned any altercations or disagreements that he might have gotten into. She described him as a very humble and caring person who respected everyone. “She always tried to make everyone laugh and feel safe.”
She pleaded with anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the men who killed her father to contact the police. She said that even if that wouldn’t bring him back, he must get justice.
