Mamelodi Sundowns President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has apologized and promised to take action for the “grossly negligent” behavior that led to the suspension of defender Tebogo Langerman, including from substitutes during the Nedbank Cup final.

The Brazilians beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0, but their feat of winning a league title, Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup titles in the same season was ruined by the news that Siwelele filed an official complaint about Langerman.

Last week Celtic lost their protest in the arbitration against Sundowns who pleaded guilty and face a possible fine, but Motsepe said preliminary investigations have indicated gross negligence on the part of the technical team and management.

“I would like to apologize to all the fans and members of the Mamelodi Sundowns family,” Motsepe said.

“As well as the organizations that are involved in soccer and all the people who love and follow soccer in South Africa and the rest of the African continent for Tebogo Langerman to be included as a substitute during the recent Nedbank Cup final against the rules of the PSL and Safa.

“As the president of Mamelodi Sundowns, I am responsible for everything that happens at Mamelodi Sundowns; whether he knew or did not know or was not aware or involved in the matter.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates that the management and technical team were grossly negligent and this behavior and conduct is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“A formal disciplinary hearing will be held as soon as possible and appropriate actions, including termination, will be implemented when the circumstances legally justify it. We are a caring, caring and forgiving organization, but we also have a duty to protect the reputation, integrity and good name of Mamelodi Sundowns. We have to make sure that this kind of negligent and reckless behavior doesn’t happen again. “
