The bold new away team of the Orlando Pirates has divided the internet and become the butt of many jokes online.

The new kit was unveiled on Tuesday along with a new home jersey for the 2020-21 season. The kits sport a fresh new logo, with the Buccaneers replacing their traditional emblem with a retro skull and crossbones.

But it was the away team’s bright orange color that left many blinded and the streets of social media in a mess.

In a statement, the club called the design a “bold and modern update.”

“The away kit in particular is sure to get the fans talking, with its striking orange color.

“It is the first time in the club’s history that this color has been used, and it is seen as an expression of confidence and vitality that reflects the spirit of the team.”

The kit is Available for pre-order starting Tuesday, September 29, online at piratesshop.co.za, and on sale starting October 8 at adidas.co.za, at Adidas concept stores and at select sports retailers around the country at a retail price of R799.

But the laughs he got online were free and available right now.

Both the club and the phrase “orange” topped Twitter’s trend list, with many likening it to a prison uniform or construction worker jumpsuit.

Even the endorsement of the shirt by TV character Thomas Mlambo couldn’t stop the streets from making fun of her.
