CAPE TOWN – ActionSA has described the decision of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) not to register it as a political party as irrational.

The organization said the electoral watchdog’s move was based on a perceived similarity to another political party and the use of the South African flag in its logo.

Action SA wants to appeal the decision.

Action SA said that their brand was different enough from the Action Party that it would not cause confusion.

Michael Beaumont of the match said: “We are disappointed. We believe that the application of the law by IEC is incorrect and therefore inconsistent. But at the same time, we remain optimistic that the internal process in which we are participating will result in making the right decision and allowing the registration of Action SA ”.

Beaumont said the IEC has opposed the use of the national flag in the logo.

“The ability of the IEC to reject an application can only take place for two reasons; the first is the similarity ground that I mentioned earlier and the second is to identify the marks of that party in hate speech and gender-based violence. Those are the only two reasons. “

Action SA is run by former Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and launched last month.
