But the negotiations have stalled and Catalonia Radio The United report explored other options, including 17-year-old Fati.
The Red Devils are said to have bid 136 million pounds sterling for the Spaniard and were willing to abide by his release clause of 154 million pounds sterling.
However, the negotiations ended when Barça explained that his release clause had increased to £ 363 million on his new contract.
United’s attentions have returned to Sancho ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
Dortmund have held firm to their £ 108m valuation of the English international, who recorded 17 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga last season.

“Playing with [Lionel] Messi is a dream I had since I was a child and now I’m living it, “Fati explained to Goal.
“He gives me a lot of advice, he helps me a lot on the field and in training, but also outside of it, and that makes me very happy.
“I want to keep improving every day, keep learning from my teammates because they are the best and they are trying to help me every day.”
