EWN will not name the defendant to protect the children involved. However, the ANC confirmed on Monday that it was suspended.
CAPE TOWN – The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga said on Monday it was shocked and angry following the arrest of a member in connection with the rape of his two daughters.
Eyewitness news will not appoint the accused to protect the children involved. However, the ANC confirmed that it was suspended.
The ANC said in a statement that the member of the provincial executive committee (PEC) was arrested at his home early Monday.
“The ANC in Mpumalanga province has learned with great shock and anger about the rape allegations made against a member of the ANC PEC in the province,” said Acting ANC Provincial Secretary Lindiwe Ntshalintshali.
Ntshalintshali said allegations of sexual assault were taken very seriously.
“The ANC takes these accusations against it extremely seriously, as the president has characterized gender-based violence, which includes rape, as a pandemic that we should all fight to defeat at all costs,” he said.
“The ANC supports the victims and complainants in this case and assures them that it will do everything possible to see justice done. We also want to let you know that the government led by the ANC has established different institutions to support victims of rape and all kinds of gender-based violence and they should feel free to approach those institutions.
The defendant is expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrates Court soon.
