JOHANNESBURG – A protest broke out in south Joburg on Monday morning and several roads were affected, including K43.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said protesters had blocked roads in Lawley, South Lenasia and Ennerdale.
It is understood that they were trying to occupy land in the area.
JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar said officers have been trying to disperse protesters since midnight.
“K43 and Old Lawley Road have been blocked with rocks and burning tires and this is due to allegations that informal settlements will be removed … the protests are in a large area and there has been stone throwing and tire pushing in K43. “
