From india Rahul Tewatia Broke five sixes into one like Royals of Rajasthan completed the Indian Premier League highest race-chase in history against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
Tewatia, a leg-twisting bowler and left-handed hitter, hit the ball over the fence seven times when he made 53 of 31 balls as Steve Smith’s Royals, set 224 to win, reached 226 With four wickets and three balls to spare in Sharjah.
Smith hit a quick 50 and Sanju Samson hit a high of 85 before Tewatia led the Royals to a run of 223 from Kings XI for two.
“I wasn’t hitting the ball well at the beginning, I saw him on the bench, everyone was curious because they know I can hit the ball a lot,” said Tewatia, who rose to number four but struggled early, scoring eight from 19 balls before that is released.
“It was a question of one and six. After that, I got going. I hit five on one over and it was amazing.”
Tewatia, who has played seven top-class matches, hit speedy West Indies Sheldon Cottrell by five sixes, four in a row, at 18 to turn the tables on Sharjah’s short-range cricket ground.
Tewatia eventually fell to paceman Mohammed Shami on the last ball of the 19, but Jofra Archer, undefeated at 13, and Tom Curran, who reached the limit of victory, saw the Royals at home. The best previous chase of 215 was also by the Royals, against the Deccan Chargers in 2008.
Tewatia’s innings eclipsed the first century of the IPL of Kings XI starter Mayank Agarwal in a 183-run opening partnership with skipper KL Rahul, who made 69.
Agarwal broke 106 in 50 deliveries, reaching 10 fours and seven sixes.
The Royals were shocked early in their chase when starter Jos Buttler fell by four in his first IPL outing of the season after his quarantine time.
A striking outfield save by Kings XI’s Nicholas Pooran to stop Samson’s six was a highlight at the racing festival.
Pooran defied gravity to hit a big shot from Samson for a rope, launching the ball into the playing area while still in the air.
