The Welsh international has returned to the Premier League on loan for a season and claims to have benefited from a trial period in Spain.

Gareth Bale assures that he does not regret his seven years at Real Madrid, and the Welsh international thinks that the whistles of his own fans have made him stronger.

After enjoying a brilliant start to his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, while collecting 13 trophies in total and recording more than 100 goals, the 31-year-old saw his dream change to Spain turn into a nightmare.

Amid questions about his form, fitness and attitude, Bale quickly became a scapegoat for those looking to point fingers during periods of fighting for Real.

Zinedine Zidane decided to freeze a high-value asset from his plans as criticism mounted in Madrid, but several transfer windows passed without any push for exits.

Bale has now freed himself from the whites, with a one-season loan deal that brought him back to Tottenham, and believes that everything he lived through at the Bernabéu has been beneficial.

He said Sky sports: “No, I don’t regret anything, no.

“I just try to play football, that’s all I can do and everything that is said externally is out of my control.

“Like I said, I don’t regret what I’ve done, whatever someone else said, that’s up to them. I know my opinion about myself and my family, I know exactly what I am, so that’s all that concerns me.

“Obviously, by going to a different culture, to a different country, I had to grow as a person, it doesn’t matter as a footballer.

“You just learn to deal with the situations that you find yourself in. Obviously, I have been in situations of immense pressure. I’ve had people on the field whistle at me in the stadium.

“So yeah, I just learned to deal with that kind of thing, not to take it too seriously, to take it too seriously, and yeah, just keep going. It’s football, something you love to do and you just need to do your best and sometimes that’s all you can do. “

Bale’s focus is now on events at Spurs, even though he still has a contract with Real until the summer of 2022.

He has thrived in North London before and is determined to star again as he seeks to help José Mourinho land his long-awaited silverware.

“Of course when you walk into any club where you want to do well, you want to help the team as much as you can,” added a man who became the most expensive player on the planet when he left the Spurs in 2013.

“We have a great team here now with a great squad. They have been doing very well. Obviously, in the time that I left, they continued and obviously reached the final of the Champions League, the club has a new stadium, the club itself is better, they are doing better in the Premier League every year.

“So I just want to add something to that. I want to try to contribute a little more to the team and try to progress even more and keep pushing in the right direction.
