Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa came within inches of exchanging blows at UFC 253 weigh-ins on Friday.

The duo will face off for the Adesanya middleweight title on Saturday night and sought him out at the weigh-in.

Costa wore his black belt at the weigh-in and decided to bring a gift for his rival.

The Brazilian reaches into his pockets and takes off a white belt, which he proceeds to throw at the ‘Last Stylebender’.

Adesanya then catches it and throws it at his opponent before UFC president Dana White steps between the pair.

Fans have reacted to the encounter and believe it is a taste of what to expect on Fight Island.

Both men gained weight for the main event this weekend, with Adesanya coming in at 184 pounds and Costa at 185 pounds respectively.

“Before I became a striker, I was a fighter,” ‘The Eraser’ told MMA Junkie reporters.

“I’m a black belt in jiu-jitsu. My brother is here, my coach, and I have a lot of knowledge about BJJ and yes, this (ground game) can also be in the fight.”

Adesanya then interrupted with: “He sucked like a fighter.

“Every time you shoot, you lose your gas tank on the first or second shot. Nobody needs to see your grip because you suck.”

Costa then responded by informing the Nigerian-born kiwi that he was a blue belt who “doesn’t even know how to do an arm lock.”
