BRITISH – The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases detected in South Africa stood at 668,529 on Friday, with 1,480 new cases identified in the last 24-hour cycle.
According to the statement issued by the national health department late Friday, 29 more deaths were reported, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 16,312.
The highest number of deaths was recorded in the Northern Cape, with eight deaths; there were five deaths in Gauteng, five in KwaZulu-Natal, five in Gauteng, four in the Western Cape and another two in Limpopo.
Recoveries now stand at 89.6%, with 599,149 people having recovered after contracting the virus.
To date, the total number of COVID-19 tests performed stands at 4,117,079, with 14,917 more tests performed since the last report. Of these 6,628 tests were carried out in the private sector and 8,289 in the public sector.
