A clubmate of the England international admits that facing the youngster in training or competitive action can be a thankless task for defenders
Jadon Sancho “wants you to know that he is better than you,” says Thomas Meunier, Borussia Dortmund teammate, with the England international compared to Kylian Mbappé in the betting.
Such talent has seen a 20-year-old striker enjoy a meteoric rise to prominence.
Sancho has become one of the most coveted assets in European football, and Manchester United have spent much of the summer trying to lure him back to his homeland.
However, Dortmund stood their ground and made it clear that they will not give in to transfer pressure.
That means Sancho is being released to continue tormenting his club mates and Bundesliga rivals in Germany.
Meunier, who left Mbappé’s team at Paris Saint-Germain to join Dortmund in the current transfer window, said BVB TV de Sancho: “Jadon is a bit clever.
“He always wants to give you a nutmeg or pass you. It’s a bit like a humiliation. He wants you to know that he is better than you.
“Mbappé is the same, they are a bit arrogant in their way of playing. There are ways to stop them: grab the ball or later man! “
Sancho is one of several youngsters to star for Dortmund, with Erling Haaland, Gio Reyna and Jude Bellingham also making up Luicien Favre’s exciting squad.
“They are fantastic, not just as footballers but as people,” added Meunier.
“Everyone is aware of the fact that we have the quality to do something great. We all want to win titles and they all go in the same direction. They can be 17 or 25 years old, it doesn’t matter. “
Meunier, at 29, is one of Dortmund’s most experienced bosses.
He hopes to put those qualities to good use, and the Belgian international right winger is confident that he can build a productive partnership with Sancho on his flank and contribute much of the end product himself.
“I’m an attacking player, so I can score a goal in every game,” Meunier said.
“He could have scored against Gladbach, he was alone when Gio fell for the penalty. There will always be possibilities [to score].
“But my priority is to be in the field every three days. Recovery is the most important thing for that. Being professional is the key to success. “
Dortmund opened their 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign with a 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, with Reyna and Haaland on the scoreboard, and have a trip to Augsburg and a Super Cup clash with Bayern Munich to face the over the next week.
