Ian Wright talks about a player who should have joined Arsenal and not rival

Ian Wright claims that Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek should have joined Arsenal.

The former Ajax player has just moved from the Dutch giants to Manchester United for £ 35m.

He will have to compete with players like Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba for a place in Manchester United’s starting XI and Wright believes that makes the play wrong for both the player and the club.

He affirmed that the midfielder would have been more prepared to play for Arsenal and that the Dutchman joins a Manchester United that already has Pogba and Bruno Fernandes playing in the position that he would have liked to occupy.

Wright added that fans hoping to see the trio play for the Red Devils together will wait a long time, as that just won’t happen anytime soon as they all play in the same position.

“Donny van de Beek, he’s someone I wish someone else like Arsenal could have taken over,” the former Gunners forward said on The Kelly & Wrighty Show via Metro Sports.

When you look at Pogba, what he’s doing, and you look at Bruno Fernandes, that’s Donny van de Beek’s position.

‘So people think they’re going to see Van de Beek [sitting] with Pogba and Fernandes, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

“Because as much as he can play there, that is not his preferred position to play.

“So again, spend the money, yes, he’s a great player and yes, take it, but you still have to look for the players that you know are going to improve your team.”
