Cape Town: The group of queer “artivists” who occupied an Airbnb mansion in Camps Bay on Monday have not left the premises after the property management group, Turnkey365, asked to leave before 5pm Thursday to make way for new guests who are scheduled to arrive on Friday.

Under the #WeSeeYou banner, the artivists are a group of radical queer activists fighting what they said are “global elites in a corrupt and broken system of inequality.”

The group did not respond to requests for comment on Thursday, as they were locked in meetings throughout the day.

Turnkey365 issued a statement urging the group to vacate at 5 p.m. Thursday.

“The guise under which the guests secured the reservation has not only been dishonest, but their ‘indefinite’ occupancy and refusal to allow staff to enter the property has led to many employees being unable to perform their duties, which It has resulted in a greater commitment to their livelihoods and ability to support their families.

“Our staff and their families have already suffered enough during these bizarre circumstances and, while we understand and respect the cause and belief of the group, we are not in a position to negotiate or facilitate their stay any more than has already been contractually communicated without seeing a severe impact on our employees. , who are just as vulnerable as the group behind #WeSeeYou. “

A post on the #WeSeeYou Facebook page read: “We are a wild collective of queer Africans who reside in a mansion that was not meant for us. We will put it to better use. We are making the house a home for change and justice and we invite vulnerable black and colored people to join us.
