As a result of this partnership, the DStv Premiership brand has been launched as the new title for PSL’s premier division.

Previously, the league was called the Absa Premiership due to Absa being its title sponsor, and before that it was known as the Castle Premiership.

The DStv Premiership marks an elevation of the South African Premier Soccer League that brings together the best of sport and entertainment, Multichoice said.

“As PSL continues to innovate in its quest to improve its product, it will be fully supported by DStv, whose offering requires a great deal of local content,” said PSL President Dr. Irvin Khoza.

“There is no ‘them and us’. We are united at the hip to produce more consumption of the best product for our deserving supporters. “

More televised games than ever

Dr. Khoza said there were more games scheduled to be televised than ever before, which will expand the scope of the competition.

“With more televised games than ever, we are deliberately creating a space for all South Africans to call this competition their own,” he said.

MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela said the agreement between the two organizations speaks to the core values they represent.

“The DStv Premiership is the union of two brands that emotionally connect South Africans,” said Mawela.

“Whether you’re watching the best in local soccer or the best local entertainment, the passion for both is unmatched.”

“As part of this new chapter in South African football, the DStv Premiership strives to reach all communities in South Africa, both those loyal to PSL and new emerging groups.

“Babize Bonke is our call to all South Africans to unite in the experience of a common passion,” he said.
