Former Amakhosi midfielder returns to the first team for a second period as part of the back room

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane has assured that the new coaching team will restore the culture of victory at the club.

Zwane was promoted from the reserve side leader to be named assistant coach to new Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt, and will be in the backup role alongside Dillon Sheppard.

It is the second time that Zwane is in the capacity of this first team having previously worked as part of Vladimir Vermezovic’s backroom staff almost a decade ago.

“Returning to the first team for the second time means a lot, although there will be many responsibilities and expectations in terms of results. That means the mindset will change, it’s more about winning, ”Zwane told the Chiefs media team.

“It is not an easy task now compared to then. Now I have to understand how Coach Gavin works. I have a very important role to play in terms of making coach Dillon Sheppard and coach Gavin understand the club in terms of culture, how things are done.

“We have a culture of winning as a team and a lot is expected of us as a technical team. We all want to be successful. I have been given this opportunity once again. I don’t want to disappoint. I will do my best to bring out the best in each individual.

“I am looking forward to working with and learning from Coach Gavin Hunt and Coach Dillon Sheppard. Especially to make Kaizer Chiefs fans happy by winning trophies for them. Also to make sure we play the brand of football that Kaizer Chiefs is known for.

“We will do everything possible to make sure that all parties involved are happy; the fans, the management, the board of directors, we all have it, to be happy. “

Zwane and his coaching colleagues start work at a time when Amakhosi is reeling from the disappointment of failing to win last season’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) title on the final day of the campaign.

Since the Chiefs last picked up silver in 2015 when they took the league title, Zwane admitted that he understands the fans’ expectations of them to achieve success.

“The caliber of this team is great, so every game they participate in, we play to win, be it MTN8, Caf Champions League, Telkom Knockout, every game we have to win and make history if we have the opportunity to make a mark. Zwane said.

“I want to assure fans that we know the responsibility on our shoulders and that we will do our best to make sure we get the results necessary to make sure they are happy. We will do our best to ensure that the glory days return. “

The Chiefs kick off the 2020/21 season with a Carling Black Label Cup clash against the Orlando Pirates on October 3.
