Springbok fullback Warrick gelant He is expected to make his first appearance at the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld against the Lions in their Super Fan game on Saturday.
The Stormers will face the Lions on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader that will see the Sharks take on the Bulls beforehand.
Stormers head coach John Dobson has named eight Springboks to the Stormers’ team of the day for their return to rugby this weekend.
Gelant starts as fullback, while players like mainstay Leon Lyons, utility forward Hannes Gouws, flyhalf Tim Swiel, center Michal Hazner, wing Angelo Davids and fullback Tristan Leyds are set to win their first games with the Stormers. from the bank of extended replacements.
Gelant is joined by fellow Springboks Damian Willemse, Herschel Jantjies, captain Siya Kolisi, Frans Malherbe, Scarra Ntubeni and Steven Kitshoff in the starting lineup, while Bongi Mbonambi is among the replacements.
Wing Leolin Zas will be making his first appearance with the Stormers since early 2017, having returned to his hometown franchise last year.
Dobson said there is a lot of excitement among the team to finally get back on the field and put on the jersey.
“It has been a time for everyone, the player coaches and our fans are hungry for rugby so we can’t wait to get there and take the next step as we move towards the new competition starting next month,” he said.
“Everyone has worked very hard to get to this point and while it will be great to see our high profile players on the court, we are also looking forward to seeing some new faces and seeing how they go against a quality Lions team.”
