United manchester moved to the League Cup fourth round with a 3-0 win in Luton, While West Ham boss David moyes and two of their players contracted the coronavirus prior to their 5-1 win over Shell as the pandemic caused chaos on Tuesday.
Moyes, Josh Cullen and Issa Diop left the London stadium after learning of the tests before kick-off and will isolate themselves, and the trio are said to be asymptomatic.
West Ham was not the only Premier League club affected by the virus, as Tottenham’s draw at Leyton Orient was postponed after their fourth division opponents suffered a Covid-19 outbreak.
West Ham’s game went ahead as planned despite virus testing, with assistant manager Alan Irvine in charge of the Hammers.
“At twenty past six we suddenly got information from our doctor and the head physical therapist to say that there were three positive tests, the coach and the two players,” Irvine said.
“We had had contact to the extent that we were in the same area of the stadium as David.
“We were surprised by the news. We have had so many tests and we have not had any positive results. But we have been very particular about the protocol from the beginning.”
Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko scored twice for West Ham after Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring.
West Ham will play Fleetwood or Everton in the round of 16.
The news of the virus striking the heart of football came after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson dealt a major blow to the financial future of the sport on Tuesday.

In United’s first meeting with Luton in the Championship since 1992, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 10 changes, giving full debuts to goalkeeper Dean Henderson and the signing of Donny Van De Beek.
United took the lead in the 44th minute when George Moncur fouled Brandon Williams and Juan Mata dispatched the penalty.
Henderson hopes to replace error-prone David De Gea after an impressive loan at Sheffield United last season.
He retained United’s lead with his only save of the match in the final minutes, keeping Tom Lockyer’s header off the far post.
Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score in the 88th minute before substitute Mason Greenwood’s goal in injury time put a flattering glow on the scoreboard.
“Passing is the important thing. There are some positives, the goalkeeper does his job and we scored some nice goals towards the end,” said Solskjaer, whose team will travel to Brighton or Preston in the fourth round.
Henderson tweeted: “I’ve dreamed of this all my life. It’s an amazing feeling to make my debut for the club I love.”
Tottenham’s clash with Orient has yet to be rearranged amid reports that José Mourinho’s men could have a goodbye to the round of 16, where they would face Chelsea or Barnsley.
Orient had revealed the positive cases on Monday after Tottenham paid for their opponents’ testing, but the match was not called off until two hours before kickoff.
“If I were to do this again, I would not do the tests; it is an incentive not to do the tests and that is bad for football and for health and safety,” East President Nigel Travis told the BBC.
West Bromwich Albion crashed into second-division Brentford, losing 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns.
Grady Diangana was the only Albion player to miss out on penalties and Christian Norgaard scored the Brentford goal to win a draw against Fulham or Sheffield Wednesday.
Newport reached the round of 16 of the competition for the first time in its history, as the fourth division team beat the championship Watford 3-1.
