Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Cele responded to a question posed by News24 regarding allegations of rape, abuse, and financial crimes directed against mission leaders and some supporters.

“There are stories [of KwaSizabantu] I know they are being investigated and I am not going to talk about the investigation that is being carried out. They have not been finalized, “Cele said.

“Many things have been said. I have seen the statement of the KwaSizabantu themselves, praying that people do not say wrong things about them.

“But yes, there are people [who] have relationships with KwaSizabantu that have raised issues with the KwaSizabantu mission, “Cele said.

News24 published extensive research on the mission last week, detailing the experiences of women who had been raped and abused by members of the mission.

The investigation also revealed that the Hawks were investigating financial crime allegations to enrich the mission leaders.
