Liverpool is trying to negotiate personal terms with Ismaila Sarri’s agent after reaching a deal with Watford worth at least £ 32 million to sign the attacker, according to France Soccer.
Jurgen Klopp has been in the market to attack reinforcements this summer as he looks to provide support to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino ahead of what will be a grueling season.
Sarr has been touted in the media as a target for the Premier League champions, but any potential deal seemed to be out of the question after Liverpool completed the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolves last week.
However, it seems that Jota’s arrival at Anfield has not ended Liverpool’s interest in Sarr. France Soccer claims the Reds have reached a deal with Watford worth at least £ 32 million [€35m] to sign the 22-year-old winger.
The French publication says Liverpool is now in talks with the player’s agent to try to agree personal terms and Sarr’s representatives are asking for an annual salary of around £ 6 million per season.
However, even if the terms are agreed, Liverpool could still face a battle to get an agreement on the line as France Soccer states that Sarr might be reluctant to join the champions due to concerns about how much regular soccer he would play after Jota’s arrival.
The report says Aston Villa is ready to try to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Sarr and is willing to offer the Senegalese international a key role in their starting XI if he moves to Villa Park instead of Anfield.
Sarr only joined Watford from Rennes last summer, but enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in England having provided 6 more goals and 6 assists in his 30 appearances.
His form was not enough to prevent Watford from being relegated to the Championship, but Sarr looks set for an immediate return to the top flight with Liverpool and Villa scrambling to come to terms.
We will have to wait and see how things progress, but Sarr would be an exciting addition to the Liverpool squad if they could win the race by signing and would provide Klopp with another first-class option in the final third.
