The two young coaches will have the experience of working with first team players in Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs has announced Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane as Gavin Hunt’s assistants for the next three seasons.

Amakhosi’s management’s move comes as no surprise after the news outlets broke out shortly after Hunt’s appointment last week.

The Glamor Boys took to their social media platforms to introduce both coaches.

Zwane is not new to Amakhosi’s first team, having helped Vladimir Vermezovic nearly a decade ago, and this was shortly after his surprising retirement from professional football.

He also worked briefly with Ernst Middendorp before Shaun Bartlett was appointed an assistant to the club in December 2018.

Upon Bartlett’s arrival, Zwane returned to his old position where he was coaching the Amakhosi MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team.

He is also an assistant to Molefi Ntseki at Bafana Bafana, albeit part-time, as he is fully employed by the Soweto giants.

Now, with his promotion to Amakhosi’s first team, the club may have to decide who will take over as Zwane’s coach at the MDC level.

Meanwhile, Sheppard arrives to reunite with Hunt after the pair worked together at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits for many years.

Sheppard was initially trained by Hunt as a player and decided to become a coach after retiring three years ago.

He worked closely with the 56-year-old mentor before being assigned the full-time job as the head coach of Wits MDC.

Sheppard was linked to a possible return to the Mamelodi Sundowns, where he was assigned a role in development.

However, he chose the Chiefs over his rivals, perhaps because of the role he will play on Hunt’s technical team.

The appointment of the three coaches by the Naturena-based team sees them follow in the footsteps of Sundowns, whose coaching department is made up solely of South African-born coaches.
