CAPE TOWN – Private Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan has highlighted the importance of arresting the killer of Detective Charl Kinnear.

O’Sullivan’s non-profit organization, Forensics for Justice, has awarded a reward of rand 1 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Kinnear killers.

Kinnear, a detective with the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit, was shot and killed outside his home in Bishop Lavis last Friday.

O’Sullivan worries that the Western Cape may be facing what he calls “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to killings related to the gang underworld.

O’Sullivan said authorities should act now to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

“The best way is to solve these problems now, to end corruption within the police because I have no doubt that corruption within the police and the links between senior police officials and certain members of the underworld are behind this kind of crime. thing and should stop. “

When Police Minister Bheki Cele visited Kinnear’s family last weekend, he promised to arrest the detective’s killer, but admitted there were more “questions than answers” at this stage.

O’Sullivan explains that they conducted an analysis of the late Kinnear’s lifestyle and decided to offer the reward.

“We carried out a lifestyle analysis on him and his family and were satisfied that they are living a normal life and, for the most part, just trying to survive. So we decide that enough is enough. “

No arrests have yet been made.
