The presidency has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa is resting in bed.

“The president has a common cold and is getting a little rest in bed,” acting spokesman Tyrone Seale told News24 on Monday.

Ramaphosa was scheduled to meet with the National Union of Education, Health and Allied Workers (Nehawu) to discuss a memorandum related to frontline health workers.

The union held a protest outside the Union Buildings on Monday in an attempt to get the president to respond to its demands made earlier this month.

Minister of the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu told the media that an arrangement has been made for the president to meet with the Nehawu leadership this week.

Ramaphosa announced last week that the country would move to Level 1 of the blockade, which took effect on Monday.
