JOHANNESBURG – Orange Farm residents said Sunday they wanted answers after two children were found dead in the area hours after they were reported missing.

The southern Joburg community held an afternoon prayer service at the site where the bodies of the six-year-old boy and the eight-year-old girl were found.

The children are known to have disappeared while walking home from a nearby classroom on Friday.

Gauteng police said they were searching for those responsible for the disappearance and murder of the children. They took the matter to the provincial level.

“The motive for the murder of the boy and girl has not yet been determined, while an autopsy will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death. The investigation of this double murder will be prioritized and escalated to the provincial investigation unit, in line with the SAPS position of prioritizing the investigation of crimes committed against women, children and other vulnerable people, ”police spokesman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters told SABC News on Saturday.

Prayer services were also held in the children’s homes. The residents asked the police to find the killers soon.

A shoe of the girl was also found.
