The family of the murdered Western Cape school principal, Zameka Mfubesi, has hailed the mother of two as someone who brought their family together.

Mfubesi, 46, was shot and killed in the Overberg town of Grabouw, near the N2 road on Friday afternoon.

“His wish was to bring the family together, he was a very loving person,” Mfubesi’s sister-in-law Tandazwa Mfubesi told TimesLIVE.

Tandazwa said the family was still recovering from the incident and could not understand why anyone would want to kill Mfubesi, who was the principal of Umyezo Wama Apile High School in Grabouw.

“As a family, we are fighting [with the loss]. It is not easy, but we know the word of God and we trust it, ”he said.

He said a date for the funeral had not yet been set as they were still waiting for the autopsy to be completed.

No arrests have yet been made and details about the shooting are unknown.

Tandazwa said they had been ordered by police to return to the station on Monday, where they would be provided with more details about Mfubesi’s death.

Following the incident, the Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer called on the police to act quickly.

“We call on SAPS to urgently prioritize the investigation. I offer my condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the school’s staff and students. Our district officials have come to the school together with the counselors to see how we can support them, ”said Schäfer.
