A scene of terror awaited paramedics called into a head-on collision between two BMWs on the outskirts of Polokwane early Sunday.
ER24 said paramedics and provincial rescue services found that six people, three in each car, had died when they arrived around 05:50.
“Many were still trapped and were rescued by provincial rescue services,” said Ross Campbell, a spokesman for ER24.
A woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was cared for and transported by a private service to the Seshego district hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Other people, a man in his twenties and a woman believed to be in their thirties, were seriously injured.
Both were taken to Polokwane Hospital for treatment.
Police and the traffic department are investigating the accident.
