Gareth Bale insists that the presence of José Mourinho was an important factor behind his return to Tottenham, describing his new manager as the “perfect fit” for the club.

Seven years after his departure to Real Madrid, Bale secured his sensational return to Tottenham on a one-season loan deal on Sunday, joining teammate Sergio Reguilon.

Bale won two PFA Player of the Year awards while with Tottenham before making his £ 85 million British transfer to Madrid, but he returns to a side of totally different dimensions: one from regular Champions League football and with a £ 1 billion status. -the art stadium.

The Welshman had great success in Madrid, where he won four Champions League titles, and insists he is determined to continue to win trophies with Tottenham.

The 31-year-old has revealed that he has already spoken with Mourinho about his position with the team.

“He has told me about some positions that he would like me to play and obviously I am happy with that,” Bale told BT Sport. “He was a big reason for me to come back here. He is a household name and a winner.

“He is the perfect complement to Tottenham. We need to win trophies and he knows how to do it better than anyone.

“I know that all Tottenham fans are desperate for a trophy and we will do our best in every competition to achieve it.

Tottenham fans will have fond memories of Bale producing regular lung-breaking runs on either side. And while he admits he’s not the same player he once was, Bale insists his game has developed even further, and insists the pace is still there.

“As a player, I’m not going to do the same 90-yard runs down the wing every second,” he said. “I understand my game more, it has evolved since then.

“I am more adult and mature. I may not do it sometimes when I joke in training, but I had to grow up living abroad.

“But I know I still have a lot to offer and I still have my groove. I’m excited to show what I can still do.

“We want to win things, so I’ll make sure to help the team as much as I can to achieve that.”

Bale suffered a minor knee injury while on international duty for Wales and will likely be out of shape until mid-October.

However, when he returns, he is enjoying a strike partnership with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

“I need to get in full shape. I haven’t trained since camp in Wales so I need to get into training camp.” Hopefully I can start working on my first game, whenever that is.

“Harry has done incredibly well since he burst onto the scene and scored a lot of goals.

“Playing with him and Son is an exciting prospect for all of us. We all want to contribute to help each other, but our main goal will be to do all we can for the team.”

“If we are all pushing in the same direction, it could be a very exciting season.

“This club deserves a trophy. It has gone in the right direction, but a little money now is what we need and we have to fight for that.”
