JOHANNESBURG – The provincial executive committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng is expected to conclude its meeting on Sunday.
The PEC has been meeting since Saturday to consider, among other things, the Integrity Commission report related to a multi-million dollar tender for personal protective equipment (PPE).
In its report, the commission found that Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku failed to practice adequate oversight of the PPE contracts awarded by the department.
Previously, Masuku, his wife Loyiso and the husband of presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko were implicated in the alleged fraudulently awarded tender.
The PEC has been meeting since Saturday to discuss various issues, including the report from the province’s Integrity Commission.
The PIC is understood to have made damning accusations against Masuku, his wife Loyiso and Presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko.
Sources say Masuku is not happy with the findings.
Political analyst professor Lesiba Teffo said factional battles in the ANC will decide the trio’s future.
“It is political football that is going to be played in a big way during the week and, as a result, I would say I don’t expect much.”
The ANC spokesperson in Gauteng Bones Modise could not reveal what the executive was discussing.
“And in accordance with our new normal commitment, if decisions are made that are in the interest of the people of Gauteng, those decisions will be communicated through a press conference or press conference.”
Masuku had reportedly written a letter to the PIC objecting to its findings, saying that, in his opinion, the findings do not take into account the facts presented to the PIC.
