The Hawks arrested three people for attempting to bribe a senior Hawks official in Polokwane.
On Saturday, the three people reportedly approached a lieutenant colonel attached to the asset forfeiture section and asked him to release a vehicle that was allegedly caught transporting illicit cigarettes in exchange for R7 500, said Hawks spokesman Capt. Matimba Maluleke.

The three people, aged 31 to 42, were arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Unit in Polokwane. The arrest occurred shortly after the money was allegedly handed over.
They are expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday on corruption charges.
In another incident, a 34-year-old man was arrested by the same team for allegedly trying to convince the commander of the Seshego Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit to accept a R2 000 bonus for the release of his seized vehicle.
The accused, Vincent Nnyatsa Mokoana, has since appeared before the Seshego Magistrates Court and was granted bail of 1,000 rand.
His next appearance is November 11.
