CAPE TOWN – Police Minister Bheki Cele said senior officers from the South African Police Services (SAPS) were tied up to track down the killers of the Western Cape’s chief police officer, Charl Kinnear.

Kinnear was shot and killed in front of Bishop Lavis’s home on Friday afternoon.

The police minister said he discussed the incident with President Cyril Ramaphosa and highlighted the seriousness of Kinnear’s assassination.

Cele, who arrived in Cape Town on Saturday morning, said officers briefed him on the incident.

He said he will meet with the Commissioner of the National Police, Khehla Sithole, to discuss the matter.

Cele says that if necessary, additional manpower will be brought in to help with the investigation.
