JOHANNESBURG – The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is investigating a complaint against Deputy Mbuyiseni Ndlozi of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for his comments following an altercation between the Red Berets and a journalist earlier this month.

Ndlozi was criticized for defending party members who were caught on video mistreating eNCA journalist Nobesuthu Hejana, who was trying to cover the closing of EFF Clicks outside a shopping center in the Western Cape.

The incident sparked widespread outrage with many alleging that the action constituted harassment. However, Ndlozi defended the members, saying that the group was “just touching” Hejana when they refused to let her cover the rally.

CGE spokesman Javu Baloyi said the commission received an official complaint and would investigate Ndlozi.

This follows the statements he made and posted on his Twitter timeline. We have also noted that you have apologized for your comments. However, our internal processes as the Commission for Gender Equality will continue as such, ”said Baloyi.

The South African National Publishers Forum (Sanef) had since condemned Hejana’s treatment, saying it was gruesome and misogynistic.
