Arsenal legend says Aubameyang could break goal records

Martin Keown has insisted that he does not believe that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can match or beat the goalscoring records of Thierry Henry and Ian Wright.

Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s top scorer since joining the club and has already scored 72 goals in just 111 games for the Gunners.

He has just signed a new contract at Emirates to keep him at the club for the next three years.

Arsenal have been rejuvenated since Mikel Arteta became the club’s manager at the end of last year.

The Spaniard has experienced one of the best periods in the club’s recent history and is expected to take advantage of his last season’s performance this season.

They won the FA Cup and Community Shield last month and will compete in four competitions this year.

Aubameyang has scored in each of their last three games, and scored five times in three visits to Wembley in recent months.

Despite his remarkable goal scoring record, Keown doesn’t think he scores enough goals to break Wright’s record.

He told talkSPORT: “Aubameyang loves to play there and wants to be a legend in the future, why not?

“He is 31 years old and by the way he has rejected Barcelona to stay. I think that tells you how much he loves the football club and what he seeks to achieve.

“If they win the Premier League in the next three years, he will certainly become a legend if he plays a major role in that.

“You look at the record of goals he has and he can’t get close [Thierry] Henry and I am not even sure I can catch Ian Wright. But he wants to follow in his footsteps. “
