Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Lionel Messi will have the final say on a possible transfer from Barcelona next summer.
Messi told Barça in August that he wanted to leave the Catalan club this year, but finally announced that he would stay at the Camp Nou.
However, there is a possibility that the Argentine will leave the club – where he spent the last two decades of his career – when his contract expires next summer.
“I don’t think I have to explain anything,” Guardiola said Friday of City’s interest in a move for the 33-year-old this year.
Leo explained his feelings quite well, I have nothing to add.
“He is a footballer for FC Barcelona, the club I love, and there is nothing more to say.”
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has one year left on his contract with Barça and, as things stand, he would be available for free.
When asked if City could move for the Argentine next year, Guardiola said: “I don’t know.
“It is a question for Leo Messi. I cannot speak of the intentions of other people”.
