Cape Town – Police have made another breakthrough in the murder of Ocean Basket seafood restaurant owner Lizette Deacon and her mother Hettie in Polokwane, Limpopo.

A domestic worker who worked for the deceased and her 41-year-old boyfriend have been arrested.

The bodies of Lizette, 55, and her mother, 70, were found with stab wounds in an abandoned vehicle on the R37 next to the Kushcke exit ramp last Thursday.

The two women are alleged to have been attacked at their home in Welgelegen near the Cycad Estate in Polokwane, and then put into a van.

Two suspects were arrested Sunday. The first suspect, 35, was arrested in Mokgoopong around 2.35am and the second in Polokwane around 8am.

The suspects appeared in Polokwane Magistrates Court Tuesday on charges related to two counts of murder and home burglary. The 35-year-old suspect was also charged under immigration law “for being in the country illegally,” police said.

Motlafela Mojapelo, a spokesman for the Limpopo police, said yesterday’s arrests are a breakthrough for the case.

“A team of investigators gathered to track down the killers of a Polokwane businesswoman, Lizette Deacon and her mother Hettie, made a breakthrough when two more suspects, a domestic worker working for the deceased and another suspect, 41, , were arrested.

“Both suspects were arrested this morning, Friday September 18, in different places. The 51-year-old domestic worker was arrested in Polokwane around 8 in the morning and the other suspect was arrested in Ivory Park, Tembisa around 9 in the morning ”.

The two suspects will appear in Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday on two counts of murder, home burglary and kidnapping.

Police are also asking the public to help find a Zimbabwean official who they suspect might know more.

“The police are also asking Owen to serve himself at the nearest police station, as it is believed that he could help in the ongoing investigations.

” Owen, who is Zimbabwean, uses any of the following as last names; Setsiba, Makutara or Mbedzi ”, says Mojapelo.
