SANDF member arrested after allegedly shooting man for not wearing mask

JOHANNESBURG – Limpopo police arrested a South African National Defense Force (SANDF) soldier for attempted murder after he allegedly shot a civilian for disobeying confinement regulations.
Soldiers are understood to be monitoring COVID-19 compliance at a local shopping center in the Capricorn district when they approached a group of people not wearing face masks.
The member allegedly shot and injured the man after an argument about wearing a face mask.
Police Vish Naidoo said: “SANDF members were reportedly on duty when they approached a group of people who were not wearing masks. There was an altercation that resulted in the shooting of the man. The injured man was admitted to a local hospital. The 27-year-old soldier appeared at the Morebeng Magistrates Court today and has been in custody until September 21, when he is expected to reappear. “
