JOHANNESBURG – The lawyer representing the mastermind convicted of the kidnapping of a six-year-old Vanderbijlpark girl on Thursday said his client wanted to meet with the girl’s parents after she pleaded guilty.

Tharina Human is beginning her effective 10-year sentence after she formally confessed to abducting the girl last year and threatening to extort R2 million from her parents.

His three co-defendants also pleaded guilty to kidnapping.

• The kidnappers of the girl Vanderbijlpark (6) will spend between 5 and 10 years in jail

The girl was left by a highway 19 hours after she was kidnapped.

Human’s attorney, David Mey, said his wish was to meet with his victim’s parents, but would wait for the right moment to do so.

“Parents have also indicated that they also want to have a conversation with her, and she immediately agreed to that request because that was her wish from the beginning. She couldn’t do it until now, but now she wants to do that,” he said.

Human was friends with the boy’s mother before she snatched the girl from him.

The two have not spoken since Human’s arrest, but Mey said they were busy setting up a meeting.
