Numsa and SACCA will protest outside the SAA offices on Friday over the financing of a new airline
In a statement late Thursday, the unions said it was a shame that the business rescue process is still ongoing, adding that this puts the cash-strapped carrier in danger of liquidation.

CAPE TOWN – The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) say they will picket the South African Airways (SAA) offices in Kempton Park on Friday, demanding that the government provide funds for the restructuring of the airline.
In a statement late Thursday, the unions said it was a shame that the business rescue process is still ongoing, adding that this puts the cash-strapped carrier in danger of liquidation.
Friday’s picket will coincide with a meeting called by the SOE administrators.
That meeting aims to discuss the issue of funding and the proposed future of SAA.
Managers took control of the airline in December after nearly a decade of financial losses and published a rescue plan in June after repeated delays and disputes over its future.
That plan, which includes reducing SAA’s fleet and eliminating jobs, needs at least R10 billion in new funding to work.
