COPENHAGEN – The European chapter of the World Health Organization said Thursday that it saw “alarming rates of transmission” of COVID-19 throughout the region and warned countries against reducing quarantine periods.

“The September case numbers … should serve as a wake-up call for all of us,” said WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

“Although these numbers reflect more comprehensive tests, they also show alarming rates of transmission in the region,” he told a news conference, as the organization said it was concerned about countries that had decided to shorten quarantine requirements.
