JOHANNESBURG – The mastermind behind the kidnapping of a six-year-old Vanderbijlpark girl has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

His co-defendants have received sentences of between eight and five years in prison.

The girl was abducted near her school last year and left near a highway 19 hours later.

The kidnappers tried to obtain a R2 million ransom from the parents, but failed.

Tharina Human has confessed to abducting the six-year-old girl in September last year and threatening her father.

Human told the girl’s parents that they would hurt her if they didn’t pay the R2 million.

He later confessed that he owed money to drug traffickers.

During the bail bid, the court also heard that he even considered faking his own kidnapping to get the money.

However, the transaction never materialized and the girl was left by the road in the early hours of the morning.
