The EFF says the government and ANC have used the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown period “as a period for the massive looting of state resources.”
The party added that there has yet to be a “credible effort to recover the millions of rands lost due to Covid-19 response efforts.”

The party was responding to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that South Africa would move to alert level 1 of the shutdown at midnight Sunday.
The EFF said it took note of Ramaphosa’s announcement and would closely monitor government programs and responses “because almost everything they have said about Covid-19 does not appear to be a reflection of reality.”

Immoral plunder
He said the “most vivid illustration” about the Ramaphosa government since the closure was that it “serves the interests of the white capitalist system.”
Instead of locating the key product and equipment needed to combat Covid-19, the Ramaphosa administration chose to prioritize entrepreneurs who immorally looted state resources for personal gain.
“The South African government’s economic response package, which includes the imaginary 500 billion rand, the empty promises of a subsidy for the unemployed and the mismanagement of the Unemployment Insurance Fund, is a vivid illustration that this government does not it worries about blacks. With so much corruption underpinning this effort, it is now clear that the biggest beneficiaries of all the effort are white people and business. “
The EFF said it “will continue to prioritize people’s lives because this administration has shown that they only care about the interests of white capitalism.”
