CAPE TOWN – The National Tax Authority (NPA) plans to oppose an extension of bail for Nelson Mandela Bay Councilor Andile Lungisa.

He has submitted documents to the Constitutional Court to try to avoid serving a two-year prison term.

He was convicted of assault for breaking a jug of water on the head of a Democratic Alliance (DA) councilor during a fight in the council chamber.

NPA’s Anelisa Ngcakani: “Lungisa is expected to appear before the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court at 12 noon today. She also requested bail and the hearing will take place on Monday at Grahamstown Superior Court and the NPA will object to the request. “

Eastern Cape Newspaper, The Herald, reports that Lungisa is considered unfit for life in prison because the food is bad, the sanitary facilities are dehumanizing, and the sleeping arrangements are uncomfortable.
