If you missed the PS5 event, don’t worry. We recap all the highlights here. However, what excites us the most is that Sony finally confirmed what the console would cost. Sony said in a press release:

“This is a truly exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the awesome new games being created for PlayStation 5. ”

The wait is over, Sony’s next-generation console will be priced at $ 499 for the PS5 console and $ 399 for the digital edition. Both devices will be available from November 19, 2020; some countries will receive it on November 12.

That brings us to South African prices. One netizen summed it up succinctly:

PS5 price in South Africa

We will update this article with prices in South Africa once it has been confirmed. [Edit: See update above]

Please note that the South African retail price will likely be much more than $ 499.99 (R8 128) for the PS5 and $ 399.99 (R6 515) for the Digital Edition.

If the price of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S were something to go through, we shouldn’t be under any illusions. Microsoft also confirmed that the Xbox Series X will be priced at $ 499.

However, while $ 499 equals R8 128, Xbox SA announced that the X Series would cost R11 999 in South Africa, while the X Box Series S will be priced at R6 999. It doesn’t seem fair, but I digress.

We previously predicted that PS5 consoles would be priced between R10,000 and R12,000 in South Africa. Yay us! However, pity for our pockets.

Launch strategy

Sony will launch PS5 consoles in “seven key markets” beginning November 12, 2020. Those markets include the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
