‘Diamond’ Amrouche can work wonders on Kaizer Chiefs – Ditlhokwe

The Algerian has surprisingly emerged as a potential candidate for the Amakhosi job that Ernst Middendorp vacated.

SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has described the Kaizer Chiefs targeting Adel Amrouche as a “diamond” who could change the Soweto giants if he is appointed as coach.

Amrouche, who is the current coach of Botswana, has his name surprisingly emerging as a possible candidate to replace Ernst Middendorp, who was recently fired by the Chiefs.

While Gavin Hunt is heavily touted as the favorite to be named Chiefs coach, Amrouche’s name is gaining momentum considerably.

Ditlhokwe, who has worked with the Algerian with the Zebras, paints a grim picture at the prospect of Botswana losing its coach, a development he said would herald a new era of success at Naturena.

“If he goes to Kaizer Chiefs… yah we’d be in trouble in Botswana because we would have lost a diamond… he could help us as a small country write our names across the continent. I really believe that with him everything is possible for us, ”Ditlhokwe told Phakaaathi.

“He is able to change the Chiefs and do wonders because of the players they have. You know how to work with the players to get the most out of them. He’s friendly and acts like a father, but once he gets to the field and it’s time to work, it’s time to stop working at all. “

Amrouche has vast experience, having worked as a coach both in Europe and on the African continent.

Before taking office in Botswana, he had worked with four other national teams: Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Kenya and Libya.

One advantage Amrouche could have over Hunt is his experience on the continent, not just with the national team, but also at the club level.

Having coached in inter-club competitions for the Caf with his local teams USM Alger and MC Alger, as well as with Congolese Daring club Motema Pembe, albeit with limited success, he could be seen as the right coach to guide the Chiefs in Africa.

Ditlhokwe has a lot of praise for his national coach.

“He is impressive, for example, I can tell you that since his arrival we haven’t had much time, but the little time we spent with him impressed us because he turned the team around quite quickly,” said Ditlhokwe.

“He knows how to manage players, how to prepare a player and how to instill team spirit. When he sees that you have lost your confidence, he works with you to redeem your confidence.

“Since he came here, we have played against the great teams like Egypt, Algeria and Zimbabwe and you couldn’t really differentiate between us and those teams because we were able to match them even though we don’t have that much quality. “
