Members of the Hawks and police made a breakthrough in the fight against narcotics after they discovered drugs and chemicals worth R155 million at a luxury golf property in Umhlali on Tuesday.
The bust took place in a unit at the exclusive Simbithi Eco Estate in Shaka’s Rock on the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphin Coast.
Hawks spokesman Simphiwe Mhlongo told TimesLIVE that the investigations extended through Wednesday with crime scene investigators working through the night in an attempt to establish leads that could lead to an arrest.
“On Tuesday, members of the Hawks from the Durban Serious Organized Crime Unit, in collaboration with members of the Umhlali Police Station, carried out an intelligence-driven operation. The members jumped on one of the premises and a search was carried out, ”he said. “In the garage the members found bags of alleged anthranilic [acid]. “
Anthranilic acid is a common chemical used to make Mandrax, thousands of tablets of which have also been discovered at home.
“They went inside the apartment and found bags of Mandrax powder and Mandrax tablets. In the bedroom, members found powdered heroin, heroin capsules, and more Mandrax tables. “
