The Glamor Boys are looking for a mentor to win them trophies, but is the Algerian an answer?

Adel Amrouche is promoted as the coach to succeed Ernst Middendorp at Kaizer Chiefs.

However, not only has he been linked to the job, as Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter and Benni McCarthy have also been mentioned.

But who is Amrouche? Most South African soccer fans, especially those who support Amakhosi, have asked.

Adel Amrouche from Harambee Stars and Kenya.

Amrouche is a 52-year-old Algerian-born coach who is currently employed by the Botswana Football Association (BFA) for the next two years.

He signed a three-year contract with BFA in August 2019 to attempt to resurrect soccer in Botswana by waking up the Zebras.

While he’s been in soccer for more than two decades, Amrouche didn’t start his career as a head coach.

His first major job was as a manager for Belgian team KFC Strombeek in the 1995-96 season.

A year later, Amrouche would move to Percy Tau’s former club Royale Union Saint Gilloise as sporting director until 2002.

He got his first coaching job in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002, signing a contract with DC Motema Pembe, where he lasted for two seasons before moving on to the new chapter of his career, and this was with the Equatorial Guinea national team.

Amrouche coached Equatorial Guinea for a year before being fired, but had already made a name for himself and had no trouble finding a job, as Volyn Lutsk hired him as technical director shortly after.

He would return to Motema Pembe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a second term as head coach, but things did not go as planned as he was shown the starting gate the same season (2004-05).

At the start of the 2006-07 season, Amrouche returned to Belgium to join the Royale Unions as technical director this time, but received a call to take over as head coach with the Burundi national team in July 2007.

He was in charge of Burundi until May 2012, directing 13 international matches for the team before being fired after a series of poor results.

Under Amrouche, Burundi won just two of its 13 matches, drawing four and losing a whopping seven.

Kenya gave Amrouche the head coach job in February 2013, and he took over nine games, won two, drew four and lost three of those games.

After being fired from the job, Amrouche took the FKF head-on, demanding his full salary, as he was still hired to train the Harambee Stars.

The battle between the two sides died down and USM Alger gave him the head coach position, but it lasted less than two months, between July 1 and August 17, 2016.

He then went on to coach Libya and his only match as head coach was against South Africa, where the two nations played a goalless draw in September 2018.

In October 2018, Amrouche landed the coaching position at MC Algiers, but was only in charge of 12 games, winning four, drawing five and losing three, until March 2019.

Just over a year ago, the 52-year-old was appointed coach of Botswana.

Thus, he has had six winless matches to his credit since taking office – a record of three draws and three losses.

In addition to coaching Botswana, Amrouche is also a Caf Pro License Coaching Instructor, and is currently in Belgium to perform his duties as an instructor.

Is he the Amakhosi man right now?
