This comes after reports that the duo were caught stealing and one of them has allegedly died from the incident.

Pick n Pay said it is not aware of any deaths.

His head of strategy and corporate affairs, David North, explained the events of that day to eNCA earlier.

“On Tuesday, September 1, our security staff at the store saw two people acting suspiciously, suspected of stealing. They were followed carefully and respectfully. When they left the store without paying, our security staff asked them to stay in the store. The police were notified and asked to stay until the police arrived. “

North said the two people were waiting in a meeting room upstairs from the store, away from a cold room.

He said there are video footage of the two people leaving the store in healthy condition and said neither of them made any complaints about their treatment once they left.

North said Pick n Pay has released the video footage of the incident to SAPS and indicated its willingness to make the footage public if allowed to do so.
