The Cape Town-born mentor continues to be linked to Amakhosi, but the Buccaneers are also interested in the four-time PSL winner.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has weighed in on reports that Gavin Hunt could go to Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates before next season.
Hunt is strongly linked to a possible trade to Amakhosi, who has no coach after parting ways with Ernst Middendorp last week.
According to Mosimane, Hunt’s appointment to both sides will be good for soccer because the veteran coach keeps him on the edge.
“Gav keeps me on the edge. Our games are always very close, let’s be honest. I can easily say that I’ve been following him. He has accomplished things even before I do, to be honest, and you can’t get lucky for so many. years, “Mosimane told the media.
“He’s a very good coach and he knows how to win. He’s won a lot, and he’s won trophies, man. So how can he be lucky? He’s a very good coach.
“His ratio of wins to losses is not deteriorating. He’s winning. I mean, the guy just won … I think he won a cup last year, huh?
“It’s always been SuperSport e Wits. They’ll win a Top 8 there, a Telkom or Nedbank somewhere, and SuperSport will top one of those, and we’ll win one there too.
“Let’s be honest, for the last five or six years, it’s been like this.”
Mosimane said he doesn’t see the reason why both Chiefs and Pirates would overlook Hunt, adding that he is always interested in local coaches getting the best spots in the PSL.
“So yeah why not? If Gav goes [to Chiefs or Pirates]I’m happy because you have to remember it, I always promote ‘local es lekker’ ”, concluded Mosimane.
Hunt is back in Johannesburg to further involve Amakhosi, who first contacted him last week.
Media reports this past weekend suggested the only thing standing between Hunt and Chiefs in reaching an agreement is the length of their contract, as well as the salary package.
The 56-year-old former SuperSport United mentor has already made it clear that he would gladly answer any calls and take a coaching position at any club as long as the project is good.
